What’s a nice Jewish boy like me doing on a website like this?
This is going to sound weird, but I never knew more about my Jewish heritage than I did after I accepted Christ! To be honest, I sometimes play the Jewish card, but I was never bar mitzvah’d or anything and I grew up thinking Passover was a food holiday. “Pass over the matzohs!” So for me to embrace more of my heritage, even through Jesus is great. My grandmother, before she died, said that I was the most Jewish in the family because at least I took God seriously.
I became a Christian when I was 19 years old. Because of my background, I knew the serious nature of what I was doing. It wasn’t a culturally acceptable thing for me to do and so I knew my life would never be the same. If Jesus in fact was the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6) then how could I live for the same things as before? 2 Corinthians 5 in the New Testament makes this same statement, “And he died for all that those who love should no longer live for themselves but for him who died and rose again on their behalf.”
In the same way, it is my desire to call believers to take seriously the things they believe in. The gospel is revolutionarly stuff. It involves heaven and hell, life and death and the spirit of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to actually come to dwell in human hearts!
